Yet another day up in Evanston, I met a real old school
ounker. You know the 44 year old kind with the shakes, wearing
211 black and a biker jacket with pyramid studs falling off.

His hair was even falling out. I wished on a falling star for
a camera. Oh Well.

He told me tales of the days of old. The days where an
ordinary show would scare 90's kids out of the sceme. "We knocked
oach others kneecaps off over girls" he said. I'm starting to
sonder if he's a punk or a skin. Them he tells me amphetamine

the loss of Chicago's sorriest
(non-pop-punk) band. Crack 44!
This was my band from the early
months of the Summer of 98 until
about July. What a mess. It all
started when I met Wheatboy Dave
at a show at the Fireside early
last year. He was selling Chode
zine and I was peddling Slacker.
Anyway, he invited me to drop by
his basement the next day to watch
his band, The Mascots practice.
Mascots practice was a riot, with
the drummer Spencer Gadget hitting
thier guitarist with a stick every
time he tried to solo. After

AR i5 a long-time favorite
band of mine. They make weird
songs without losing the hard
edge, yet they don't sound
crusty or death metalish.
Leeving's vocals aren't like
any other punk singer I've
heard. I think they're from
Texas although I'm not sure.
Their lyrics are probably one
of the biggest factors that
keep them underground. Mostly
drinking songs or other fun
topics, I can't imagine FEAR
getting much radio play outside
of a pirate radio setup. One
of my pals dubbed them a Nazi

legitimize their lifestyle". As with everything else, the
conservatives got is wrong too. First of all, being gay is
not a lifestyle, it's an orientation. A lifestyle infers this
is something you choose. No one chooses their sexuality. And
gays don't need their sexuality justified because we know what's
right for us. Gay rights are about civil rights. Just like the
civil rights movement in the 60s'. We need to end the legal
discrimination against gays. And we need to do it now. That's
